We hope you'll come and visit us!
Following their 32 sell out dates during Fringe 2010, Alba Flamenca's very own Edinburgh-based Spanish flamenco troupe return this year with a brand new show! Singer Cristobal Osorio from Seville brings a new energy and gravitas to this established flamenco ensemble, which is already rich in provenance and authenticity!
"...astounding! ... impeccable musicianship and dancing ... a rich musical display...' (ThreeWeeks 2009).
"...breathtakingly creative and technically excellent ... an intense, mesmeric and breathtaking evening (for) all..." (Fringe 2010)
"...astounding virtuosity... Alba Flamenca really succeeds in transporting you out of Edinburgh to some romantic sala or basement bar in Cadiz! - utterly entertaining!" (ThreeWeeks 2010).
Scot wishes he could clap, dance and move with flamenco rhythm just like his best friend Lucia! They decide to go on a journey through Spain to help Scot find his flamenco heart! On their travels they meet flamenco dancers, singers and musicians who help them understand the magic of flamenco! From Cadiz to Barcelona, from Seville to Granada ... put your stamping shoes on, get your clapping hands ready (flamenco spots and flowers also welcome!) and prepare to join Lucia, Scot and their friends on their big flamenco adventure!
Highly acclaimed flamenco guitarist Andrew Robinson ('El Niño Patas') presents his compelling new show, which celebrates the very essence of true flamenco fusion! Traditional flamenco sounds combined with spirited jazz-based rhythms abound! Prolific jazz performer Sean Pentland on the double bass, accomplished flamenco performer Carmen Alvarez on cajon (box drum) and Edinburgh's very own celebrated flamenco singer Danielo Olivera make for a show that is truly sensational! Technically astonishing performances illustrate a profound understanding of traditional flamenco flirting with the seductive flavours of jazz. A fusion that keeps flamenco music spirited and alive from start to finish!
Ready for la fiesta? Dance, clap, sing and immerse yourself in the contagious magical and unique sounds of Andalucian flamenco fusion! All Spanish performers based in Scotland, Orkesta Simbolika bring with them their deeply immersed Spanish traditions to create a genuinely magical sound. Cadiz-born Danielo Olivera drives forth the musical soul and sings with such heart, agility and wonderful sandpapery tones that he could sing from a bus ticket with a world of hurt, joy and celebration! Big flavoured guitar lines, bass and drums and a reminder that the humble handclap can be a musical instrument that seasons the kaleidoscope of sounds that will have you itching for more!
